Dear friends,
Because of environment we are currently in after the 2016 presidential election, and the threats to freedom, openness, and the progress this has brought to all people (but LGBTQ people in particular), Rainbow Book Fair has decided to have a theme for the 2017 fair:
“Books and the Courage to Go On”
We would like to explore these ideas and issues at our 2017 fair —
- What is keeping you going on in the current political climate?
- How we can identify and sustain books as a source of change, strength, solace, and personal intimacy?
- What books continue to change your life and give you the strength to survive adversity and stress?
- What new voices do you see in this Age of Uncertainty? How can we discover them and allow them to bloom?
- What older voices give us the time-tested experience to put even bad changes into perspective?
Rainbow Book Fair would love your input. You can send us your ideas and thoughts about planning for our annual event in 2017 to: belhuepress@earthlink.net.
Love, Perry
Note: there is no official date set yet for our 2017 book fair. All news and updates will be posted on this website, and on our Facebook and Twitter pages. Thank you for your continued patience.
Perry, thank you so much for the update.
I must admit, part of me is still in shock about the Presidential election outcome, but I must confess, politics and I are not exactly “fast friends.”
This could be because, well, there is not much in politics that I find appealing.
Interestingly enough, a week or two before the election, I saw a photograph of the group Well-Strung with Hillary Rodham Clinton, and I thought to myself, “Oh, so everyone who wanted me to be interested in politics was doing it WRONG!” They needed to have four superbly talented, creative, and GORGEOUS men take a photograph with a Presidential candidate, and THEN I would be interested in politics!” Ha!
Nevertheless, I have no doubt the next few months shall be quite telling as to what happens, where, and when.
For now, thank you so much for all you do for the Rainbow Book Fair, and I look forward to attending next year’s as well. I also need to FINALLY become a member/friend of the Book Fair, too.
Thank you, Robert. We look forward to your participation in the Rainbow Book Fair, certainly in the challenging times ahead.
